A school is part of everyday life.
When you picture a new home, you might imagine the kitchen, the backyard or a little more room for everyone. For families, there’s another picture alongside it: the morning walk to school, the friends your child will make and the place where so much of their week will happen.
As a mom, I understand why school information matters. The latest EQAO results give us something useful to explore together. They can help you ask better questions about the schools around you and make a more informed neighbourhood shortlist.
EQAO has released its 2025–2026 results for Ontario schools. Below, I’ve pulled out some of Brampton’s leading Peel District School Board schools using a simple comparison of reading, writing and mathematics achievement.
These are calculated rankings based on EQAO achievement results. They are not official EQAO rankings or Fraser Institute ratings, and they do not measure every part of a school’s experience.
Which Brampton schools stand out?
The tables compare the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard in each subject. The composite is the equally weighted average of those three percentages.
Grade 3 and Grade 6 are shown separately. A school can appear in either or both tables depending on its available results. Grade 6 results include schools serving that grade; they are not limited to schools named “middle school.”

School selection covers PDSB schools in Brampton only. GTA comparison covers Toronto, Peel, York, Durham and Halton. Tied composite results share a rank; ranks can skip numbers. Percentages are achievement rates, not students’ average test marks. Source: 2025–2026 EQAO data and the October 7 local rankings workbook.
How to read the numbers
Hickory Wood leads the Brampton Grade 3 schools in this comparison, with a 93.0% composite and a GTA rank of 41. Castlemore leads Brampton’s Grade 6 group, also with a 93.0% composite, and a GTA rank of 66.
Those ranks come from different grade-specific comparison groups. They should not be treated as a direct head-to-head comparison between the two schools.
Look at the subject results as well as the headline number. Two schools can have similar composites with different strengths in reading, writing or math. A few percentage points can also move a school through several ranking positions.
I’d also look at results across several years and ask the school about its learning environment, support services and programs. A single year reflects a particular group of students. It won’t tell you how your own child will feel in the classroom or what support will suit them best.
Before you fall in love with a home, check the address.
A school nearby is a good reason to look more closely. To find out which school a home is assigned to, use the PDSB School Finder with the exact street address and confirm the current assignment with the board.
Real estate neighbourhood names, postal codes and distance alone aren’t enough to confirm eligibility. Program-specific boundaries can differ from regular-track boundaries, so check the program and grade your child needs.
My family-home checklist
- Confirm the assigned school. Check the exact address, grade and program before relying on a listing’s school information.
- Try the school-day route. Think about crossings, the walk, drop-off and how the trip fits into your workday.
- Ask about the school experience. Learn about classroom support, communication, activities and the programs relevant to your child.
- Look ahead. Check what happens when your child moves to the next grade range.
- Consider the whole neighbourhood. Your budget, commute, parks, library and everyday errands all contribute to family life.
Use the rankings to begin a conversation.
There’s no single school number that can choose a home for your family. But there is value in putting the information together: achievement results, a confirmed school assignment and an honest look at how you want your days to feel.
If you’re curious about your child’s school, or comparing a few Brampton neighbourhoods for a future move, I’d be happy to help you understand the numbers and find the right next questions to ask.
